Mark Twain once said that if you eat a frog first thing each morning, you can go through the day relieved that it is probably the worst thing that will happen to you all day. Get your complete menu, froggie side dishes and fixins’ here…
Everybody Has A Frog
I have the worst time convincing my husband to trim the hair in his ears. When he was 20, he didn’t have this problem and now, because he can’t see the hair himself, he doesn’t see a need to trim it, even though I’ve told him that other people notice it – enough to make women cringe and little children run away. And since I am usually the one who does the trimming, I’ve told him I’d rather not wait until I have to use the bushwhacker. Sigh.
The point I’m getting to here is that for some reason he hates getting trimmed, so he puts it off and makes us both miserable. FROG.
I’m no better. Well, I don’t have hair in my ears, thank God, but I am a very skilled procrastinator. By now you have probably figured out that a FROG is something that maybe you don’t want to do, or is so big you can’t even think about getting started on it. You’re probably going to procrastinate. Or at least that’s what I do. Although I love my job for the most part, there are still many things that I just do not enjoy doing. I can waste an amazing amount of time making myself busy with other less important stuff, telling myself that I’m busy so it doesn’t matter. But don’t confuse busyness with accomplishment! Time is precious and is getting more so with each passing year, yes?
Don’t Lick The Frog Before You Eat It
If you have to eat a frog, for heaven’s sake, don’t lick it or examine it first! That will only serve to convince you to put it in a box. Just sit down with your fork and get on with it. First thing in the morning. One bite at a time until he’s gone. I’m not going to spell it all out here for you. The book does a really good job of it and it’s not very expensive – a good one to have in your library for when you begin to forget. No, I don’t get any royalties but I wish I did as it’s one of the biggest sellers of all time.
NOTE TO SELF: Eating a Frog first thing in the morning has no calories and no after taste. But it DOES come with a great feeling of accomplishment and pride that lasts all day long.

Kathie
Kathie, I never thought of procrastination that way! But you are so right! I avoid cleaning under my kitchen sink. Can’t fit anything else there. However a leak in the pipes (I almost said I had a leak, but know how your mind works!), made me take everything out. I actually added linoleum on the shelf, organized the stuff I actually use into baskets and feel like I accomplished something. Now have to do the frog thing to get rid of the box of ‘stuff’ on my kitchen floor! Maybe today?
There is another way to look at frogs. I love frogs, it has a very special meaning, and every room has a little frog to watch over me.
FROG stands for Fully Rely On God!
I did not procrastinate – I ordered the book and will have it tomorrow! Of course, once I get it I have to read it………..
Oh, Kathie! This post just hit several cords. My problem is that I have so many frogs… I spend too much time deciding which one to eat first… and to top it off, they are all things I want and love to DO!!!! So, I take a nibble here and a nibble there and I have a refrigerator full of them. sigh. I need this book. I have to start appreciating my frogs.
I love your posts. They are so uniquely you – I can hear your voice!
Time to get out of my head and into the day! Thanks Kathi!
I’m glad saw your post, Connie. I always thought I was the procrastinator in the room. Makes me feel better. Now I have so many things to do like you all were saying . I need the book…
And I always thought just kissing a frog would be a challenge!! I ordered the book because God knows I can procrastinate with the best of ’em. Thank you, Kathie, for sharing your expertise on this topic and I eagerly await my book so I can get motivated to get all those nagging, hangeron jobs I’ve put off done!!??
I love Tuesday, for no reason other than to receive, read, and LOL your Tuesday Tips. Thanks as always.
Thanks Kathie as always great information. I really need to get this book and probably share it with my children. I am one of the biggest procrastinator I know. ☺
Love it, Dear Friend!
